Scientific Interests – inclusive education of children with special educational needs, innovations in meeting special educational needs. The latest work of the researchers (with co-authors) is the monograph "Special education and its transformations in the context of inclusive education" (2020), in which Lithuanian legal, political, practical and scientific discourse is analyzed in the context of the approach to disability and international agreements; the study shows the current picture of the special school from the perspective of various educational participants and interested groups; the positive and negative experiences, successes and shortcomings of the education of children with disabilities in these schools are revealed.

Prof. dr. Anne Looney graduate of the Mater Dei Institute in Dublin, and the Institute of Education in London where she completed her doctoral studies, she taught in a post-primary school for 14 years before joining the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA). In 2001 she was appointed Chief Executive. She led the NCCA until 2016 when she moved to the Higher Education Authority as interim Chief Executive. She joined DCU as executive dean in March 2017. She spent 12 months as a professorial research fellow at the Institute for Learning Sciences and Teacher Education at ACU in Brisbane in 2014/15.
Prof. dr. Anne Looney research interests include assessment policy and practice, curriculum, teacher identity and professional standards for teachers and teaching. She has also published on religious, moral and civic education, and education policy. She has conducted reviews for the OECD on school quality and assessment systems, is a member of the boards of Early Childhood Ireland, and the Ark Cultural Centre for Children.
